An eco-designed website

This site is eco-designed. Therefore its goal is to provide important information on SILAB’s CSR strategy, while complying with criteria of digital simplicity. This site was designed to reduce energy consumption by judicious technical and editorial choices because the environmental impact related to consulting Internet sites is constantly increasing.

A green hosting

We have entrusted the Swiss company Infomaniak to hosts the site and make its data avalaible. This service provider is an independent company, a model preferred by SILAB, that is recognized and has received several certifications for its positive actions on the environment.

A responsible development

The site development was designed to optimize the weight of the pages. This involves “light” and adapted technologies, that will notably only load information necessary for the user.

A “mobile first” design

When a site is designed for a computer monitor, content is generally increased to occupy the space. Reasoning in the opposite direction enables us to go straight to the point, minimize functionalities and avoid optional content.

A streamlined design

An eco-designed approach requires visual sobriety. Compliance with good practices was ensured by using reasonable and sparing image formats and less energy-intensive illustrations were preferred; no videos are hosted on the site; using system font avoids downloading an additional font, etc.

A seamless user experience

Browsing that enables users to rapidly obtain the information sought has a lower carbon impact. Thus, there is a double benefit from facilitating users’ search paths and access to information: time saved for users and a smaller environmental footprint.

Relevant contents

In order to reduce the Internet site weight, its contents were well thought out to provide complete and clear information to guarantee its sustainability and relevance.

Only essential functions

Since each functionality consumes energy, all aspects were studied in order to adopt a minimalist approach. This is why the site contains no contact form or search engine.

Measurement of impact

In order to optimize performance and reduce the environmental footprint of the site, SILAB used several web eco-design tools such as EcoIndex. The objective was to achieve at least a “B score” for each page. With a view to transparency, the Website Carbon’s carbon equivalent calculator has been integrated and displays the carbon footprint median of all the pages of this site (data updated on 06/22/2026).

The user can access this indicator or other measurement tools available online to verify this information in real time.

Advancement objective

SILAB’s ultimate objective is to extend this approach to all of its Internet sites.
